Crew Resource Management Class

High Reliability and Safety Culture in High-Risk Teams
A Proactive Approach to Managing Risk in High Consequence Environments

April 1, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Class Located at: North Mason High School Auditorium,  150 E. North Mason School Rd., Belfair, WA 98528

This course is designed for those in high consequence domains such as Fire and Rescue services, Law Enforcement, Commercial Aviation, Health Care, Military, or anyone who wants to improve individual and team performance within high-risk activities; where accuracy and thoroughness is often traded for speed or efficiency; and where judgements related to “unnecessary risk” are usually retrospective and determined after an undesirable outcome.

The course will cover:

  • The concepts of conflicting incentives and risk perceptions that drive behavior (and how to set priorities as an individual and as a work group)
  • The reason we start with “Risk” and “System Design” when analyzing incidents
  • Communication skills designed to reduce the risk within high-risk teams
  • Strategies for improving situational awareness (Individual and Team)
  • Strategies for effective debriefing, learning, and leading teams
  • An easy method to deconstruct human error and develop risk mitigation plans for individuals, groups, and systems
  • The difference between “Risk Intelligence” and “Risk Tolerance” and why leaders need to know the difference
  • How to collaborate with senior staff, elected officials, labor unions, and external regulators to improve performance and safety
