North Mason Regional Fire Authority will be hosting a Basic Firefighter Academy supported by the Washington State Fire Training Academy through the Regional Direct Delivery Program. This class and training will provide the new and experienced volunteer firefighter with fire ground knowledge and skills to perform safely on the fire ground in a team environment.

These classes will also prepare the candidate to take the Washington State International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Fire Fighter 1 and Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations written and practical tests.

Academy Start Date: September 9, 2021

Academy End Date: December 14, 2021

Graduation: December 18, 2021

SCHEDULE/LOCATION:

Class Location: Mason County Fire District 6- Station 61; 50 East Seattle St., Union, WA 98592

Schedule: Tuesdays/Thursdays at 1800-2100 hours; Saturdays 0900-1700 hours

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years of age
  • Affiliated with a fire department that agrees to sponsor the student
  • First Aid and Health Care Provider CPR by start of class
  • Student must meet Washington State and their department’s medical, respiratory and physical fitness
  • standards. The Fire Chief’s signature serves as verification that the student meets those standards and is covered by the department’s insurance.
  • NFPA/WAC 296-305 compliant Personal Protective Clothing & Equipment (PPE)
  • SCBA is NFPA/WAC 296-305 compliant; cylinders have a current hydrostatic test date
  • Facial hair that meets WAC 296-305 standards (no beards or goatees)

TUITION:

  • There is no cost to the student or fire department for the instruction, books, live fire training or IFSAC testing.

ATTENDANCE:

  • It is recognized that some classes may be missed due to illness, family emergencies or work schedules; however, it is pertinent that the student be accountable and notify the program drill master that they will be not attending a class and make arrangements to make up the missed sessions.
  • The Saturday and Sunday practical skill days are very important in preparation for the state practical test which is a pass or fail; if you cannot not make a training session, it is imperative to make up that missed day.
